Hi there,
I recently acquired a 2nd hand 24-70 f2.8L lens, which looks immaculate on the exterior (August 2009 date code). However it looks to be very soft at the wider end at 2.8, and not improving much stopping down. It’s better towards the longer end however still far from perfect. Subject edges also appear “fuzzy” and not well defined. I’ve tried auto focus micro adjustment however this doesn’t seem like much help. Same story on both my 5Dii and 7D.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be? How much would an initial inspection/repair/calibration cost please? If you could also let me know the turnaround time I’d be grateful as I’m travelling in a couple of weeks!
Many thanks
Hi Sav
There are various things this could be. Firstly we would need to
examine the lens to check that the zoom guides are not worn
then we would project the lens and see what results it produces
from there we would set the lens alignment and centering.
For this work and service of the lens would be £110 plus return
postage and VAT. We look forward to seeing your lens and please
quote this number when sending in F113

I have a Canon PowerShot A650IS which is afflicted with the ‘light leak’ issue causing purple banding on some photos (5th digit of S/N is a zero).
Spoke with Canon U.K and they indicated that you were one of their authorised repair centres. Canon U.K also verbally confirmed to me that they would honour the light leak repair on this camera and bear the related costs. I wanted to get this issue attended to and have 3 questions to ask.
1. Would I need to get an email from Canon U.K confirming that this repair would be free to me (to include return postage of camera), prior to making any provisions with you (for the sake of total clarity, so no surprises).
2. I understand that the light leak repair would entail opening up the A650IS and inserting a piece of black mylar covering inside of the back of the camera body. Is this what you would be doing?
3. What would be a fair estimate of turnaround time once you are in receipt of camera.
Also is there anything else that would be required?
Hi George
All you need to do is forward the camera to us with
this reference F112 and your details.
We will carry out the repair of the light leak fitting a
light trapping inside the camera along with Canons
guidelines. Canon will cover all costs for this light
leak problem.
Hi again George
I forgot to add, the turnaround time would be about 6
working days.

Hi there.
I have a Canon 24-70 2.8L that has a problem.
When zooming in from 24mm to around 32mm it is jerky rather than smooth. Zooming out from 32mm to 24mm feels fine though. There is also lens creep between these focal lengths when the lens is at a high angle of around 80 degrees or so.
Any ideas on cost to repair?
Regards,
Connor.
Hi Connor
Thanks for the email.
To repair and service your EF24-70 2.8L lens and
to address the faults would be £110 plus return postage
and VAT. With regards to the lens creep, this will be
tightened with new guides but it will depend on how
loose the barrel has become due to wear. Please give
this number F111 when sending in.
hello, was wondering how much it would cost to clean the sensor and mirror on my 400d thanks
Hi Adrian
To clean the sensor on your EOS 400D would be £25 plus
return post and VAT. If you’re local, you can always drop in
and we can do while you wait (could take up to an hour)
Pease give this reference when sending/bringing in F111
Hello,
I have a canon ef 28-70mm f2.8L that need (one or two) new parts but I cannot find (it/them) in Switzerland. Official Technician said Canon don’t deliver anymore the relevant parts in Switzerland/Europe. What is the situation in UK? What if I send you my poor baby for a little check? Relevant brocken part(s) is the back element in plastic. It is detached from the main part of the lens. General conditions of the lens are good, but it is an old version..
Thank you for taking me in consideration.
Ignace
Hi Ignace
Unfortunately parts for this lens are no longer available
And we have exhausted all of our stock of parts we had.
Sorry we could not help especially as this is a nice lens
