We had a nice customer come into us the other day with his EOS 7D not working correctly.
On examination we said the camera needs a new CF unit, Impossible he answered, I only had that replaced a month ago by a “local repairer”.
Once we had the camera dismantled we found the CF unit had been replaced, but to our horror, it was with a second hand part which obviously came from a corroded camera. Our customer’s camera was in really good condition with no signs of corrosion anywhere apart from the recently fitted CF unit. The “local” repairer had also tried to patch up the CF pins and heat distorted the circuit, so he had “got it working” but only for a short time.
It’s pretty obvious, but the one on the left is the damaged one which we removed. The one on the right is a nice shiny new one straight from the Canon factory and as it should be.
The moral of the storey is, they may be local but only trust your repair to the experts. We are as local as your nearest Post Office.
